Best Places to Go in Fortnite You Must Know Of

Best Places to Go in Fortnite

Seasons 6 of Fortnite has given plenty of surprises for the most avid gamers–and now, they’re adding even more reasons for players to keep searching for the best places to go and explore in the expansive world.

A highlight of Seasons 6 updates features the first NFL player in Fortnite. Justin Jefferson, a wide receiver for the Minnesota Vikings, became the latest of famous faces to be associated with Fortnite. For the late April 2021 update, Jefferson comes with a locker bundle– complete with signature dance moves and a new emote.

This follows on past moves by Fortnite to add athletes, sometimes with mixed results. While in the past some dance moves were sometimes used without permission, this time Fortnite has confirmed the maker of the dance moves has been properly compensated.

With this more positive step forward, now Fortnite players can more fully enjoy the new iconic figure to enter the game. The update is available to all who own the season battle pass, which costs eight dollars.

But while the update adds more reason to explore, most characters, loot, and weapons take a bit more know-how to find and use. To make the most out of Fortnite, you can’t rely just on new updates– you have to go out and find it yourself.

Consider this your guide to the best places to go in Fortnite. I’ll tell you where to find some of the characters, where to find the best loot, weapons– including guns and exotic weapons– and even the safest places to go when you need to bunker down.

How do you travel in Fortnite?

Traveling in Fortnite offers several options, and of, the course gets you to the best places. But some forms of traveling are preferred over others, depending on how quickly you want or need to travel and your personal gameplay preferences. Keep in mind that vehicles are only available for Fortnite: Battle Royale editions.

By Foot

Of course, the most common way to get from place to place is by foot. It’s slow, but it’ll allow you to take in the settings, and maybe even spot some loot or weapons along the way. Never underestimate the typical way to travel. There is a common myth that holding certain items will allow you to run faster in Fortnite– a myth that has been tested and now debunked. You can walk, jog, and run, but that’s pretty much your limitations when traveling by foot.

Chicken Flight

Yes, you read correctly: you can use chickens to launch you to a new location more quickly. This clever fast travel trick allows you to launch quite an impressive distance– essentially short-term flight– but of course, is not the most practical. First of all, you find a chicken, and then you have to hold onto it while launching off the top of one of the Seasons 6 Spire Shrines. It’s also not sustained flight, more like a quick launch.

By Cannon

A pirate cannon can also provide a quick launch and get you where you want to go more quickly. Pirates can not have a driver’s seat and one for the ‘human cannon’. You operate the cannons through pushing, walking, and/ or running. There are a few problems with this quick launch option: for one, you need two players to operate; for another, you have next to no control over the speed or direction of where you catapult. In this way, it’s almost more useful to use it as a regular vehicle.

By Motor Boat

Motor Boat, of course, is the mode of transportation of choice for navigating rivers, oceans, and lakes- but it can actually travel on land, too. However, considering that you take damage for every moment on land, and even more, if you try to use a motorboat to boost on land, I recommend sticking to water. Like both the Quadcarsges and drift board, it had boasting features, but with the added perk of the ability to ram and launch missiles.

Plane & Helicopter Flying

A newer way to travel more quickly in Fortnite is through the plane flight. The X-4 Stormwing Plane can accommodate up to four players and not only allows you to travel quickly but even perform stunts. Planes spawn randomly and are easy to control but may be difficult to find. See the chart below, courtesy of Euro Gamer, for a list of plane controls.

Fortnite Plane controls PC PlayStation 4 Xbox One Switch
Switch Seat L-Ctrl Click Right Stick Click Right Stick Click Right Stick
Boost Space X A B
Airbrake L-Shift L2 LT ZL
Roll Left C L1 LB L
Roll Right Z R1 RB R
Roll Invert X N/A N/A N/A
Shoot Left Mouse Button R2 RT ZR
Free Look Right Mouse Button Move Right Stick Move Right Stick Move Right Stick
Exit Plane E Square X Y

Helicopter flying, meanwhile, is available from the Choppa, which can move both vertically and horizontally and features a boost function. This older vehicle is also able to ram against buildings, though this will cause some damage to the helicopter. It’s easier to learn how to use but doesn’t have the stunt functionality of newer planes.

Other Vehicles

Other vehicles available in Fortnite include shopping carts, all-terrain karts, quad crashers, drift board, the Baller, the Mudflap, and a few cars. Shopping carts can accommodate two players and do accelerate well on declines but have no brakes. The Baller, which spawns randomly, can be used by only one player at a time and is actually seen more as a weapon vs a primary mode of travel.

Where should I go in Fortnite?

The best places to go in Fortnite depends on what your main goal is: do you need to acquire weapons? Find some fantastic characters? Simply need a safe hideout?

One thing that I admire about Fortnite is that there really is so much to explore. No matter if you’re playing on one of the best gaming laptops or have a modest setup, you can explore all Fortnite has to offer. Here are my recommendations for the best places to go, no matter what you’re seeking.

Best Places to Find Characters

Characters in Fortnite can be found just about anywhere, and they’re constantly changing. Season 6 along provide 46 new characters, scattered as far south at Bunker Jonesy in a cabin in the Misty Mountains; as far north as Splode, in their shack on the Island that sits just East of the Stealthy Stronghold; as far west as triggerFish on the shores of the Sweaty Sands, and as far east as Tess, in the Dirty Docks.

In order to find characters, your best strategy is to explore as much as possible. You’ll need to visit all islands, and I recommend especially paying attention to less thought of areas, such as coasts, forests, and more isolated regions.

Some of the best places to find characters (for Season 6) include Dirty Docks, the Flushed Factory, Steamy Stacks, Craggy Cliffs, Weeping Woods, Sweaty Sands, Colossal Crops, as well as other vessels, cliffs, farms, restaurants, castles, strongholds, and parks.

Best Places to Weapons

Guns are one of the most popular and useful weapons in Fortnite, and you don’t want to waste too much time scrambling to find guns, especially if you’re among enemies. The challenge? There is no one place to go to find guns, as they are scattered, but there are places that are more likely than others.

In fact, if you’re playing Battle Royale, I recommend stocking up at least on one gun and a backup weapon as soon as possible. Weapons usually fit into one of the following categories: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic and Exotic– each, of course, indicating how likely you are to locate them/ how prevalent they are within the world. For all of these, you have assault weapons, shotguns, pistols, rifles, crossbows, melees, and explosives.

Common, Uncommon, Rare, and Epic Weapons

Common weapons, as the name implies, are the easiest weapons to find in Fortnite. Common weapons are a good idea to grab if you’re just starting– a weapon is better than no weapon– but do keep in mind, as the most common, they also do the least damage. Common weapons randomly spawn but are often found in chests, as well as high places. I recommend visiting rooftops, as well as cliff peaks if you’re not having much luck with chests. Do keep in mind that common weapons can be upgraded to be more powerful.

That is also true of less common weapons– you’ll just have to search harder. But if you’re struggling to find weapons in Fortnite aside from the most common ones, there are some additional places that I recommend you try looking at. Look for regions that have many structures– building heavy regions are more likely to have weapons than more obscure regions. I’d also recommend both fortresses and castles.

Mythic Weapons

Mythic weapons in Fortnite take a bit more work to find– you’d be hard-pressed to see these stashed away in a chest, or casually spawned. To acquire a mythical weapon, you’ll need to go to specific locations and interact with characters. The more places you visit, and the more characters you interact with, the more likely you are to acquire a mythic weapon. In some seasons, you may need to fight a boss.

For the mythic weapons introduced in Season 5, you can find the Chug Cannon in the Craggy Cliffs from Remedy; the Burst Quad Launcher from Fish Sticks in the Craggy Cliffs; the Amban Rifle from the Mandalorian at the Razor Crest; the Boom Sniper Rifle from the Stealthy Stronghold; the Shadow Tracker from the warehouse at the Dirty Docks; and the Scout Rifle from Hunter’s Haven.

Mythic weapons inflict the most damage and for many players, are worth the hunt. Besides, I love a good challenge in my game.

Best Places to Find Loot

Loot, weapons aside can be found randomly generated around the map and in chests. You can also find treasure in basements, attics, behind walls, and even within wall cracks.

Some specific places that you can go include: the Happy Hamlet in the Southwest, the racing tracks on Paradise Palms, the Haunted Hills, and the regions near Pleasant Park. I also like searching the Dirty Docks and Sweaty Sands.

Finding loot mostly takes just traveling and looking around. Be aware, and look closely in places you may not expect. There’s no shortage of loot in Fortnite– it just takes some exploration. However, there is also the matter of the best places to find safes.

Safe Locations

Safes in Fortnite are challenging to find, and they don’t spawn often as regular loot in Fortnite. Since safes do spawn spontaneously, you also are not guaranteed to find a safe in the same location that you did before. If anything, I recommend not wasting time revisiting a location where you found a safe, at least recently.

Safes, however, are almost always found within buildings– whether those are homes, fortresses, or something else. You’ll need to look high and low, and also in potentially unexpected locations. Some places where players have had success finding safes include the Dirty Docks, Holly Hedges, Sweaty Sands, and Craggy Cliffs.

Safest Places in Fortnite

While Fortnite is an adventurous game, to survive, sometimes you need to lie low. If you find yourself low on weapons or health, then there is no one best place to hide away, but there are some places that are safer than others.

Should you find yourself in such a situation, some of the safest places, I recommend looking for an obscure place, perhaps high up in the cliffs. Strongholds, if unoccupied, can provide additional protection.

Some safer and less chaotic places include: the Homely Hills, Craggy Cliffs, the Dirty Docks, Lazy Lake, and Pleasant Park. You get a better sense of the safer regions as you play the game and explore. Just don’t make the mistake of completely letting your guard down, no matter how worn out you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Does jumping in a Fortnite make you faster?

Answer: In Fortnite Battle Royale, speed can make a difference between getting loot and missing out, and evading or succumbing to enemies. Because of the intense action-adventure gameplay, many players want to find any and every way possible to increase speed, but jumping will not be able to increase your ability to walk or run more quickly.

Question: What age is Fortnite for?

Answer: While Fortnite is popular for a variety of ages, including younger players, the age restrictions to play Fortnite requires you to be 12 years old. This massively multiplayer online game, especially the Battle Royale version, can be a bit intense and does include graphic violence. Polls suggest that there are players– a substantial number of them– that are disregarding this age requirement. If you’re a parent, however, I don’t recommend letting your 7 or 9-year-old play– not so much with the violence, but more so the massively multiplayer online element to it.

Question: Is Fortnite shutting down in 2021 forever?

Answer: Despite many rumors, Fortnite did not shut down in 2020, and there are no signs that it will die in 2021, either. Fortnite continues to come out with new seasons, new characters, and new loot to explore. In fact, 2020 was a great year financially for Fortnite, for gamers with a wide range of gaming setups. Fortnite may continue to evolve, but for now, it’s not going anywhere.

Question: Is Minecraft better than Fortnite?

Answer: Whether Minecraft is better than Fortnite is not a simple question: it really does come down to individual gameplay style and personal preferences. Fortnite has more detailed, and arguably immersive graphics, and it is also attracting a bit more in terms of competitive gameplay. But Minecraft hasn’t had some of the controversies that have surrounded Fortnite and can be played in a few more modes. Minecraft and games like it have a lot to offer, and may also be more appropriate for slightly younger players.

Final Thoughts

Fortnite is still a force of games headed into 2021, and the only way you can experience the best of it is by exploring. There are countless places to go to find loot, weapons, meet characters, and stay safe.
